Smokey Bear & Woodsey Owl Contest
Each year the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the National Garden Clubs invite children from first through fifth grade to participate in the National Garden Clubs, Inc Poster Contest. The original Smokey Bear appeared in 1944 with the message, "Only you can prevent wildfires", encouraging personal responsibility. Woodsey Owl is America's icon for the conservtion of the environment since 1971. He encourages all to "Lend a hand, care for the land". Through their drawings, children exhibit their beliefs and undestanding of these important causes.
